The latest update of Google's open-source artificial intelligence models, Gemma 3, is out.  Well-structured, Gemma 3 is able to run smoothly on a single TPU or GPU, thus suitable for developers who are not equipped with a large amount of computational resources.


• Multilingual Support: 

The bigger versions of Gemma 3 have support for more than 140 languages, making it possible to create worldwide applications targeting multilingual user bases.


• Multimodal Capabilities

Gemma 3 enables sophisticated multimodal capabilities, such as the processing of text, images, and short videos. This is attained by combining SigLIP's image encoder that treats images as sequences of soft tokens and a dynamic "pan and scan" algorithm that retains essential visual details.


• Large Context Window

 The model features a large context window, with the 1B model having support for 32K tokens and the 4B, 12B, and 27B models supporting up to 128K tokens. This provides applications with the ability to efficiently process and comprehend large data inputs.


• structured output and function calling

 Also equipped with structured output and function calling, similarly to other GenAI models, Gemma 3 allows developers to set up complex workflows and integrate AI functionality to applications. 


Deployment and Integration

Developers may not need to put much work into use and can start experimenting with Gemma 3 immediately in Google AI Studio for browser-based manipulation. Models can also be downloaded for more specialized purposes (for example, Hugging Face, Ollama, and Kaggle). Hugging Face's famous Transformers library allows for fine-tuning, and the Google GenAI SDK simplifies integration.
